The definitive guide to contemporary Cyprus for discerning travellers

A collection of stays and stories from the island of Cyprus

Born from a desire to give Cyprus the attention it deserves in the travel world, Kalimera is your insider guide that showcases the island's creativity, culture, and character. This platform features a growing collection of handpicked places to stay, from design-conscious boutique hotels to thoughtfully restored village houses.

Homes & Hotels

This first collection marks the beginning of a carefully curated selection of stays across Cyprus. Every hotel, villa, and guesthouse featured has been personally experienced as a guest; not just visited, but stayed in. New properties will be added gradually throughout the year as I continue to explore the island. My approach is intentionally slow and considered, as every recommendation is based on genuine experiences.

Notes from Cyprus

Beyond hotels and villas, Kalimera explores the island's creativity, craft, and characters through stories and interviews. From conversations with Cypriot hoteliers and winemakers to village guides and restaurant recommendations, these are the details that shape daily life on the island.

COMMON QUESTIONS ABOUT VISITING CYPRUS

  • Almost always sunny! The climate is subtropical Mediterranean with very hot summers and relatively mild winters. The sun shines between 300 and 340 days a year, so grey skies are rare. Even in winter when temperatures drop to around 10°C, the skies are almost always blue and the air is still. Rain is equally infrequent, and snow only falls in the Troodos mountains.

  • With around 320 days of sunshine every year, the cleanest swimming water in the world, an abundance of ancient ruins and architecture, a growing design and dining scene, and mountain villages that feel untouched by time, Cyprus is a unique island that is always evolving without changing in spirit. It's also the perfect size to explore if you want a well-rounded trip taking in multiple sides of the island.

  • I love Cyprus in May, as the temperature is perfect and the wildflowers are in bloom, as well as September, which still feels like summer but without the crowds. June to August are the hottest months of the year, if you’re looking for a scorching summer holiday, but the island is at its busiest and hotels and villas will need to be booked ahead.

  • It depends on the type of holiday you're looking for! While Cyprus is often associated with beach holidays in Protaras, Agia Napa, Paphos, or Limassol, you can also plan a more active trip hiking or golfing in the rural regions, enjoy a quiet escape in a mountain village, or take a city break in Nicosia or Limassol.

  • Yes to both! Cyprus is home to both boutique hotels perfect for couples, and larger resorts with all the offerings a family would need.

Kalimera was born from a search to find thoughtful, design-led guides to Cyprus, and not finding what I was looking for. I wanted something more true to the island I know, so I set out to build a space where the island’s everyday beauty is recognised.
