Apokryfo
Boutique Hotels / Quiet Escapes / Mountain Village Retreats / Troodos Mountains
Traditional mountain living with design sensibility in one of Cyprus's most picturesque villages
Perfect for those seeking authentic village life in a beautifully designed mountain home
Set in Lofou, one of the most picturesque mountain villages in Cyprus, Apokryfo sprawls into the village streets rather than sitting apart from them. Originally a cluster of old stone houses, this boutique hotel was created by architect Vakis Hadjikyriacou and interior designer Diana Hadjikyriacou, so it's no surprise that every space feels considered and thoughtfully curated.
With five rooms and six houses spread throughout the village, the hotel is entirely embedded in local life; it’s warm, welcoming, and refreshingly uncommercialised. True to its name, which derives from the Greek word for 'hidden away', the hotel sits in a secluded spot, with courtyards shaded by pomegranate trees, stone pathways winding through old buildings, and sun-soaked terraces overlooking the valley.

NOTES FROM KALIMERA
Apokryfo will always hold a special place in my heart.
When I lived in Cyprus, we would escape here for a few days, spending hours tucking into Eleftheria's delicious (and very generous) Easter and Christmas lunches. It was the first hotel I took my husband to when we visited Cyprus together, and we both loved it so much that we chose to get married there in 2019. I'll never forget walking to the church with my family, seeing all the locals cheering and clapping as we made our way through the village.
Because the hotel sprawls throughout the village and has an intimate, homely feel, it's perfect for small groups, as you can book the entire property and your friends and family will take over a corner of Lofou. The atmosphere is wonderful, but it’s worth noting that Apokyrfo is a small hotel, so you'll share the pool and restaurant with other guests. If you're looking for total solitude, this might not be the right fit. But if you want an authentic village atmosphere with thoughtful design, it's absolutely perfect. Oh, and one more thing: do not skip dessert. Eleftheria's pastries and mastiha ice cream are unforgettable.
Rooms
The five rooms and six houses at Apokryfo are traditional and comfortable, with wooden floors, exposed beams, traditional ceiling fans, and balconies overlooking the village. Interiors feel warm and welcoming rather than polished or minimalist, and each space has its own character, designed to make you feel at home rather than like a hotel guest.
Food & Drink
One of the best things about Apokryfo is the food. Eleftheria, the hotel's chef, cooks traditional Cypriot dishes by hand, and eating here feels like being cooked for by family. Everything she creates is wholesome and warming, with menus that change with the seasons. There are a couple of food options in the village, but it's worth planning meals out in advance as dining options are limited.
Wellness
Apokryfo has a small spa that's wonderfully quiet and calming, though treatments need to be booked in advance as there are no spa staff permanently onsite. The small pool is the real highlight; it’s relaxing, perfectly sized, and ideal for whiling away an afternoon. Wellness here is less about facilities and more about slowness, heartwarming food, and a genuine escape from modern life.
Getting to Apokryfo
